How to make your jacket waterproof again!
Over time, the water-repellent finish on your jacket wears down. Luckily, you can restore it yourself. Discover how to wash your jacket and make it fully waterproof again.

Washing a waterproof jacket

To keep your waterproof jacket in optimal condition, it is important to maintain it regularly. Firstly, you can do this by washing your jacket in the right way. This ensures that the pores in the fabric stay clean and the jacket retains its breathability.

  1. Close all zips before washing and turn the jacket inside out.
  2. Always check the care instructions for the jacket in question. The coating of these jackets is delicate and can be damaged by a wash if you don't wash them at the right temperature.
  3. Use special detergents such as Tenson MPC Wash. This ensures that your clothing is water- and dirt-repellent again.
  4. In addition, it is important not to use fabric softener, so that the original properties of the jacket are not affected.
  5. Finally, it is important to let the jacket dry well. You can best do this by using a drying rack or clothes hanger and letting it air-dry. Never let the jacket dry on a radiator!

Re-impregnating a Jacket

Do you notice after a while that washing alone is no longer sufficient? Then you can treat the jacket with a waterproofing agent. You often find these in the form of a transparent spray. This too ensures that the breathability of your jacket remains intact.

Do the water droplets no longer run off the jacket, but are absorbed by the fabric instead? Then it is time to waterproof your jacket. The easiest way is to hang the jacket up so that it is completely straight. Now you can apply an even layer of the waterproofing agent. Then let the jacket dry well for a few hours.

You will notice that some spots on the jacket wear out faster than others. Think of the elbows, shoulders or the inside of the sleeves. That is why it is wise to keep a close eye on these parts and even treat them two or three times with the spray.

Whatever the weather…

With a bit of love and good maintenance, you make sure you stay armed against wind and weather. During the next shower, you'll be ready to brave the rain. Are you still looking for a waterproof jacket? Then check our website for suitable jackets or care products to help you through the rain.
